LA DESCRIZIONE.
You are bidding on an Atom Fixed Gear Bike for the Track or as a Fixie, the frame is built with Columbus Max Tubing and it has a Campag Pista Chainset, circa 1980's.
Its worth reading the detail below as there is a lot of information which may answer your question, and if not you can email me and I'd be happy to arrange a phone call if needed.
This is a beautiful track bike which I have used on the velodrome at Newport and also as a winter fixie. Ideal for either, but at the moment I have it fitted with a front brake for road use.
The frame is an Atom with Columbus Max Tubing and is lugless. The rear forks and the top of the front forks are chrome; however I think the front forks are completely chrome underneath the paint. The down tube and diagonal tube are ovalized where they meet which is a trademark of Columbus Max tubing, making it very rigid and strong. There is no hole for a rear brake and no mudguard eyes front or rear.
The frame has an extended seat tube that rises 12cm above the top tube. This can be seen clearly on the photos. The head set and bottom bracket are both 80s era Campagnolo.
The frame size is 52cm seat tube, thats C-C bottom bracket to top tube. The top tube is 55cm C-C. I'm 5' 10" and it fits me perfectly.
The chainset is Campagnolo 165mm Pista with a 48 tooth 3/32inch chainring. I can change the chainring for a 47 campag 3/32 or a 1/8 Gebhardt GIP in 49 or 50. Contact me after the auction and before payment to arrange this.
The chain and 16 tooth rear sprocket are 1/8inch with a shimano lockring
Rear wheel is a System EX Large Flange hub (threaded both sides, so reversible) with black Mavic Open Pro clincher rim and 32 spokes.
Front wheel is a Miche Primato Large Flange hub with grey anodised Mavic Open Pro clincher rim and 36 spokes.
Tyres are Specialized Ultralight/R 700/21 clinchers. They are slick so suitable for the track and dry road. They are average condition and I have used them at Newport where they stick fine.
Profile Stem and Cinelli Track bars with two Campag brake levers and an Exage front brake.
The seatpin is USE Aluminium 27.2 in black with a Selle Italia Flite saddle.
There are no pedals included.
Pick up for free or I will send next day by Royal Mail Standard Parcels. I could possibly deliver anywhere near the M4 between Bristol and London, but please contact me before payment to arrange this.
If you have any questions please contact me.
Happy Bidding!
Story About Columbus Tubing
There are a few tubesets in Columbus' inventory that have achieved hallowed status, such as SLX for its rifled butting, or EL-OS for its incredibly thin .4-millimeter wall. But these tubes are commonplace. They are known to be good because almost everyone has ridden them, or at least knows someone who has. Their performance is documented and accepted as fact. But if you speak to a group of cyclists about Columbus Max tubing, there is rarely any certainty other than the fact that it is a tubeset possessing stature beyond others in the Columbus catalog. Like Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster, Max tubing is something everyone knows about but almost nobody has experienced, simply because most of us don't need it. Max is oversized and ovalized, to the point where it's simply too stiff for most of us. But for heavy riders, especially those riding larger frames, it's just the ticket. It's this kind of stiffness that has endeared Max to countless professionals, especially the big sprinters, and one of its biggest fans was the great Eddy Merckx!
